When strange green oobleck begins falling from the sky, the Kingdom of Didd quickly discovers that this sticky substance is much harder to control than anyone expected. Bartholomew and the Oobleck is a playful companion to today’s adventure because the fictional goo inspired the name we now commonly use for one of science’s strangest kitchen experiments.
As you read: How would you describe oobleck without using the words sticky, slimy, or gooey?
What does the slime think about being pulled, folded, and stretched across the table? Is it grumpy about all the poking, or does it secretly enjoy the attention? What does it wish humans understood?
Give your slime blob a personality. Is it grumpy, dramatic, cheerful, nervous, bossy, or completely exhausted by all this stretching?
Think about how your slime moves and reacts. Does it wobble, ooze, plop, cling, sag, or snap back? A dramatic slime might describe every poke as a terrible injustice, while a silly slime might treat the whole experience like one big adventure.
First you trapped me in a plastic cup. Then you poked me fourteen times. FOURTEEN. I have boundaries.
Dress It Up: Try giving your slime blob a favorite word or phrase it repeats whenever something ridiculous happens. This repetition can help your writing sound even more lively and funny.

Make It Sublime: Try adding a little cocoa powder or cinnamon for natural color and scent. How does your addition change the slimeβs smell, appearance, or texture?
Slime is for playing, not eating. Wash hands after handling it, and supervise younger children.
If your recipe uses borax or another activator, the ACS recommends reading and following the product cautions, keeping slime away from young children and pets, and washing hands after play.

Slime is made from long molecules called polymers. When an activator creates connections between those polymer chains, runny glue can transform into stretchy slime.
