They All Saw a Cat

Write a scene from a cat's point of view!

Need ideas?

Is your cat mischievous, delighted, grumpy, nervous, or curious? Perhaps your cat is guarding the house from a terrifying vacuum cleaner, plotting an expedition onto the kitchen counter, watching a blue bird through the window, or attempting to rescue a favorite toy from beneath the sofa. What ordinary objects might seem enormous, confusing, or exciting to a cat?

Point of view means telling a story through one character’s eyes.

Try using words that reveal your cat’s personality without directly explaining it.

Instead of:

I was a mischievous cat.
Try:
I nudged the vase one inch closer to the edge and waited.

Cat Charades

Write different cat actions, moods, and adventures on small slips of paper. Take turns choosing one and acting it out without speaking.

Ideas include:

  • Chasing a laser pointer
  • Sneaking into a cardboard box
  • Watching a bird through the window
  • Stepping in something wet
  • Refusing to come when called
  • Hearing a can of food open
  • Meeting a dog
  • Getting the midnight zoomies
  • Discovering catnip
  • Pretending not to care

Everyone else must guess what the cat is doing or feeling.
