While art, science, and history museums are the most common, there are also museums dedicated to bananas, pencils, ramen noodles, and even bad art!

You don’t have to travel to Washington, D.C. to begin exploring one of the world’s most famous museums! Packed with colorful photos, fascinating facts, and incredible exhibits, this official guide invites curious kids to discover everything from dinosaurs and airplanes to gemstones and space exploration. It’s a wonderful way to experience the excitement of museums from anywhere.
Which exhibit comes to life first? A dinosaur skeleton? An ancient Egyptian mummy? A knight in shining armor? A famous painting?
If you can, celebrate International Museum Day by visiting a local museum together. Invite everyone to choose one favorite exhibit and spend a few extra minutes really looking at it. What details do you notice? What questions does it make you ask?
Then, continue the adventure at home by watching one of the Night at the Museum movies together. As you watch, choose one character or exhibit that appears in the film (such as Theodore Roosevelt, Sacagawea, Attila the Hun, or a Tyrannosaurus rex) and spend a few minutes discovering the real history behind it.
